I haven’t always been in love with clothes from Old Navy. Thirty years ago, as a young wife and mother post-college years, I had tried Old Navy and found them to be not mature enough for the role that I was playing at the time.
Fast-forward a few decades, and I’m now in a new role as fine-ass grandmother and world traveler (I’m working on it). And now, fashion from Old Navy has become my new obsession.
Have I changed or has Old Navy become the new it for the elegant but straightforward fashionista over 50 that loves to travel? Well, yes my sense of style has changed over the years from jeans, sweat pants and t-shirts (my tom-boy mommy gear) to swing dresses, jeans (can’t give those up) and cardigan sweaters.
But Old Navy has evolved as well into the perfect store to shop for the best clothes for traveling light; for the hip woman over 50 who hates lugging a heavy suitcase. And don’t wanna spend a whole lot of money to look good.
In this article, I discuss the best travel clothes for women over 50 who wanna look good traveling. And what to wear while traveling that allows you to feel great and comfortable at the same time.
Best Travel Clothes for Women over 50
Best Dresses for Travel in the Summer
My go-to travel outfit of late has been the Old Navy Sleeveless Jersey Swing Dress for Women. It is one of the best dresses for travel in the summer. You can transition this summer dress to fall, and winter (well Florida winters) look by adding a cardigan. If you have a hot flash, you can pull the cardigan off until it passes. Perfect!
Another gorgeous dress that travels well and shows less thigh for the woman who wants a little bit more coverage is the Rib-knit Swing Dress.
Both dresses could be paired with either a summer sandal –
Or a dressy-heeled sandal –
Best Travel Pants for Women
I haven’t met a pair of pants from Old Navy that hasn’t looked glorious on me – including the Mid-rise Wide-Leg Linen Blend Pull-on Pants. You could pair this with a loose-fitting t-shirt and a pair of sandals. The Mid-rise Wide-Leg Linen Blend Pull-on Pants are comfortable and the best pants for long flights to Paris or Taiwan.
Best T-shirts for travel
This 100% cotton loose-fit tee is super soft! And it’s tagless which means comfortable wear for you through any flight. The Everywear Slub-knit Tee pairs well with a comfortable pair of jeans from Old Navy.
Best lightweight jacket for travel
It is always a great idea to take along a lightweight jacket because it is always so cold on those 737s. The Linen Blend Utility Jacket is the best lightweight jacket; perfect for travel and pairs well with your favorite pair of slacks or jeans. Cuff the sleeves to gain some coolness points!
Old Navy is an excellent option for those of us who want to look good while traveling (or otherwise) but not pay an arm and a leg for clothes. They have a variety of styles that will work well for the woman traveler over 50 who wants to look stylish but don’t want to look like their wearing clothes meant for younger women.
