Florida Dolphin Tours – Highlights of Dolphin and Wildlife Adventure
I forgot my secret life as a Science geek during my college years. Going on this tour brought back all those memories of…” Oooh, oooh! Call on me, Professor…I know, I know the answer”.
Here I was once again calling on the Professor…well the tour guide, a marine biologist…asking questions and raising my hands like I was in college still; all while sipping on a $4 mimosa.
Who cares that it was about to rain. I could feel the ocean breeze in my braids and swayed back forth to vocal stylings of Bob Marley in the playing in the background. God, it felt great, and I was jammin’ (or tipsy).
I hung on the local tour guide every word as I learned about dolphins, manatees, and birds native to the area. Many of St Augustine’s landmarks can be seen from the water. He also talked on the devastation that Hurricane Irma in 2017 brought to the city and how downtown St Augustine was underwater.
You can still see some of the damage to docks, piers, boats, and buildings along the coastline. But you can see how St Augustine has bounced back after that hurricane.
Tourism is back up to record numbers which mean significant economic recovery for St Augustine and its people.
What I loved about the Dolphin and Wildlife Adventure Tour
I love tours where I come away from it informed, educated, and highly entertained. The Dolphin and Wildlife Adventure Tour did not disappoint. And I look forward to taking another one of their tours (they offer several different types).
Our tour group was able to spot several dolphins hanging out in Tolomato/Matanzas River and along the beach. This tour was my first introduction to dolphins in the wild other than in a zoo. I also got to see quite a few different species of birds that make St Augustine their home.
I’m a city girl (lived 30 years in Chicago). It was nice to be reminded of the importance of wildlife conservation and the consequences of global warming on the environment.
